Challenge
A major national home improvement retailer faced significant reverse logistics challenges during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. With a surge in e-commerce volume and returns, their internal infrastructure was not equipped to handle the seasonal spike in returned merchandise across multiple regions. They needed a large-scale, flexible partner to manage high-volume returns processing, both quickly and reliably.
Solution
BroadRange Logistics stepped in to manage a 200,000 square foot returns operation out of its Kennedy facility in Atlanta during the height of the pandemic. The facility was optimized for high-velocity reverse logistics, enabling efficient handling, sorting, and disposition of returned goods. More recently, BroadRange supported an additional 50,000 square foot program through a partnership with a secondary marketplace, facilitating daily transfers from the client’s returns center in Scranton, PA to BroadRange’s Pennsylvania facility.
Outcomes
The programs ensured returned inventory was processed efficiently, reducing backlogs and improving asset recovery timelines. BroadRange’s ability to scale quickly and coordinate daily transportation enabled uninterrupted operations, even during peak volume periods. The client saw a measurable reduction in turnaround time from return to resale or liquidation.
Conclusion
These engagements demonstrate BroadRange’s ability to handle complex reverse logistics needs at scale. By combining large-format warehouse capacity with daily transportation coordination and operational flexibility, BroadRange delivered a reliable solution that met both the speed and volume demands of one of the nation’s largest home goods retailers.
